This is a general liturgy that we sometimes use for beginning a time of spiritual retreat. It focuses on themes of coming to Jesus and resting in him. It can be done individually, or responsively with the standard text being read by a leader, the bold text read by all, and songs sung by all.
Liturgy
Oh God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you.
My soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you,
in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Jesus says: “Whoever is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.”
My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, He is my fortress; I shall never be shaken.
Out of my bondage, sorrow and night,
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come;
Into Thy freedom, gladness, and light,
Jesus, I come to Thee;
Out of my sickness, into Thy health,
Out of my wanting and into Thy wealth,
Out of my sin and into Thyself, Jesus, I come to Thee.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
This I know, that God is for me.
Jesus, I am resting, resting
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,
For by Thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.
Cease striving and know that He is God.
Lord, here I am. I give this time to you.
I give myself to you, as a living sacrifice,
as an act of spiritual worship.
Lord, teach me your ways,
transform and renew me,
that I may know and walk in your ways,
that I might love you with all that I am.
The Lord your God is with you.
He is mighty to save!
He will take great delight in you,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.
