Cease Striving

My personality tends to be one that is very task and performance oriented. At times, this is an asset and drives me to do all that I do with excellence. However, more commonly, it drives me to strive and be frantic in much of what I do. In such times I find my mind and my heart wandering away from Jesus and trusting in my own strength.
I often need the reminder to return to the only place of true life and fruitfulness. This liturgy was one of the first liturgies I ever put together for myself, and its purpose is to simply take a moment to slow down, stop the frantic striving, and set my eyes back on Jesus.

Liturgy

Cease striving and know that He is God.

Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice,
and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?

The Lord answers, “You are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Choose the good portion, it will not be taken away from you.”

Jesus I am resting, resting
in the joy of what thou art;
I am finding out the greatness of thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon thee
and Thy beauty fills my soul,
for by Thy transforming power, thou hast made me whole.

Thank you, Lord, that you are here with me.
I entrust this time to you
I entrust myself to you
for you to do as you please
“May it be done unto me”
Amen

“I will keep my people as a shepherd keeps his flock… And my people shall be satisfied with my goodness” declares the Lord
