A liturgy by Frances Green
Your eternal and boundless Word,
O God, stands firm in the heavens.
Your Word is perfect and righteous.
It endures to this day,
for you established it to last forever.
Your Word, O God, created all things.
The heavens were made,
their starry hosts by the breath of your mouth.
Your Word gathers the waters of the sea into jars,
you put the deep into storehouses.
For you spoke and it came to be.
You commanded and it stood firm.
Your Word, God, makes you known to us.
Your Word became flesh and lived among us.
Jesus, the living Word, is life,
and that life is the light of men.
His Word shines the light into our
darkness and is full of grace and truth.
Your Word counsels.
It gives joy to the heart,
revives the soul
and makes wise the simple.
Your Word gives hope to the weary,
delight to the soul,
comfort to the suffering
and peace to those who love it.
Your Word, O God, gives
understanding and good judgment
so we know what is right.
Your Word keeps us from sinning
and keeps our way pure.
Your Word, God, saves.
Your Word is truth and sets us free.
It sets my heart free so that I can walk,
even run, on the path of righteousness.
Your Word, O God, guides.
The unfolding of your Word gives light
and understanding to my journey.
Your Word is a lamp to my feet
and a light for my path.
Your Word directs my footsteps
so that I do not stumble
or go down the wrong path.
Your Word, O God, is trustworthy.
Your promises have been thoroughly tested
and are fully trustworthy.
They sustain us. Strengthen us.
They uphold and deliver us.
Your Word is living and active.
Sharper than any double-edged sword,
It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit.
It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Your Word is the sword of the Spirit
against the schemes of the devil.
You live through your Word in all who believe.
Your Word, God, is precious.
It’s more precious than silver or gold.
Your Word is sweet to taste,
sweeter than honey from the honeycomb.
Your Word is my delight
and the joy of my heart.
Your Word, God, is my heritage.
It is the theme song of my life.
I will not neglect your Words or forget them.
I believe them, trust them
and put my hope in them.
I guard them in my heart
so that I will remember them
and obey them as long as I live.
I stand firm in your Word.
Your Word stands firm in the heavens.
