You may find it helpful to read the chapter Intro to Scripture Meditation before trying any of the Scripture meditation activities.
It can be helpful to meditate and dwell on a single passage for several days or for an entire week. Try setting aside 30 minutes each day for a week to meditate on one passage of Scripture. You can choose one of the previous meditation activities and use it each day. You can also use the simple pattern below each day:
- Silence — Be still and present that your mind and heart would be prepared to hear from God.
- Read — Read the passage slowly a few times.
- Meditate — Dwell on what you have read, engaging your heart and mind, talking with God about how the passage impacts you.
- Silence — Be still and let God’s Word finish speaking.

John 15:1-11 — I Am the True Vine
Alternate Format:
On the first day, only meditate on the first one or two verses. On each following day, add an additional 1-2 verses, dwelling especially on those new verses. Continue each day, adding verses, until you are reading the whole passage. This format works best with passages that can be meditated on one verse at a time (it doesn’t work well with story/narrative passages).
