This is a much shorter activity for self-examination and confession of sin. Set aside at about 30 minutes for this activity.
Take some time to pray, asking God to reveal to you the sin in your life and lead you forward in His ways.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” Psalm 139:23-24
Reflection Questions
Slowly and prayerfully consider the following questions (based on questions from John Wesley):
- What known sins have you committed recently?
- What temptations have you faced?
- How did you respond to these temptations? How have you seen God’s deliverance or providing a way out?
- What have you thought, said, or done that you doubt whether or not it is sin?
- Is there anything that you desire to keep secret or hide from others?
Bring all the above into the light — confess them boldly to God and rest in His promise:
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
